Building Does Not Stop When the Snow Falls
In Ontario, we build year-round. Winter construction requires extra planning and precautions, but it is absolutely doable when you work with an experienced team. Here is what goes into preparing for a winter project.
Site Access
Snow removal and ice management become part of the daily routine. We ensure safe access for crews and material deliveries throughout the project. Temporary roadways may be needed for equipment.
Concrete in Cold Weather
Concrete can be poured in winter with the right precautions. We use heated water, accelerators, and insulated blankets to keep the concrete at the proper temperature during curing. Ground frost is removed before footings are poured.
Protecting the Structure
Open structures are temporarily enclosed with tarps and heated to protect materials and allow work to continue. This is standard practice and something we budget for in winter project timelines.
Material Storage
Lumber, drywall, and other materials need to be kept dry and protected from the elements. We plan material deliveries carefully to minimize on-site exposure.
Shorter Days
Fewer daylight hours mean crews start early and may work under temporary lighting. We adjust schedules accordingly to maintain productivity without sacrificing safety.
